Rutherford College Hall of Distinction 2026
On Monday 19 October, Rutherford College held a special assembly to celebrate the induction of three distinguished former students into the school's Hall of Distinction.
This year's inductees were Paula Morris MNZM, Pauline Winter QSO and the late Sir Tim Shadbolt KNZM, each recognised for their outstanding achievements, contributions and service to their communities and New Zealand.
The school was honoured to welcome Paula Morris and Pauline Winter back to Rutherford College and to recognise the legacy of Sir Tim Shadbolt, who was one of the school's foundation students in 1961.
The ceremony began with a formal pōwhiri by Te Kapahaka o te Kōtuku, providing a meaningful and memorable welcome. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Matua Papa Fred, Whaea Liz and Matua Paratene for their warm welcome and for helping make the occasion so special.
Year 12 and Year 13 students attended the assembly, giving them the opportunity to hear about the remarkable achievements of former students who once walked the same halls.
Paula Morris was recognised for her outstanding contribution to New Zealand literature as an award-winning author, editor and advocate for Māori writing. Pauline Winter was honoured for her extensive leadership, public service and dedication to Pacific communities, while Sir Tim Shadbolt was honoured for his lifelong commitment to championing change, his influential role as an activist, his many years of service as a mayor, and his lasting contribution to New Zealand's public and political life.
The Hall of Distinction celebrates former students who have gone on to make a significant difference in their chosen fields and communities. It also serves as an inspiration to current students, demonstrating the many pathways and possibilities that lie beyond their years at Rutherford College.
We congratulate our 2026 inductees and are proud to recognise their achievements as part of the Rutherford College story.
