It's about Perspective

1. GIVE UP
2. GIVE IN
3. GIVE IT ALL YOU'VE GOT

Ever since I was a teenager, I have loved inspirational quotes and motivational messages. Over the years, I have learned that there's more than one lens with which to view these messages. What one person perceives or takes from a quote, may be completely different to the message someone else receives.

This message always seemed black & white. Previously, the first two choices to me, basically meant: FAILURE. The only legitimate choice in my view was: GIVE IT ALL YOU'VE GOT!

But ALL 3 options, are legitimate choices. Broadening our view of any of the messages we receive in life shifts us from a FIXED MINDSET to a GROWTH MINDSET. Sometimes giving up, doesn't mean giving up on our goal or dream altogether, it could mean giving up on our current approach. It could mean, adapting or finding a different way around them.

If the GIVE IT ALL YOU'VE GOT approach, is not getting you where you want to go, or is causing undue angst and stress, perhaps it's time to consider the legitimacy of ALL 3 OPTIONS. Perhaps stepping back or stepping sideways could take you where you want to go faster, and help you enjoy the journey more fully, or enable you to utilise your strengths.

GIVE UP,
GIVE IN,
OR GIVE IT ALL YOU'VE GOT.

Each one is a legitimate choice and learning when to adopt a wider, more helpful, kinder, view of the choices available to you is wise.

Kotuku Badge Applications

Applications are now open for students to apply for a Kotuku Badge.

The Kotuku Badge scheme is designed to encourage the pursuit of excellence and encourage participation across the college. The badges are attainable for all students in four areas. Students are encouraged to build their ‘ladder’ and in doing so, build pride, foster goal setting, reward competition and encourage participation.

There are four categories: academic, sport, culture and citizenship.  Students can build on their achievements and strive for two levels – with the colours being based on the school colours of blue (top level) and silver (initial level). You can find out more on our website about the criteria for each badge. Students can complete the application via the School Portal. Click on the Kotuku Badge icon and complete the form. Applications close 7 August. Badges will be presented during Rutherford Week in term 3.

Visitors will have the chance to meet our staff and students, explore our facilities, learn about our academic, sporting, cultural, and leadership opportunities, and discover what makes Rutherford College such a vibrant and inclusive learning community.

For those who would like to see the school during a normal school day, our Open Day on Friday 31 July offers guided tours and the opportunity to observe classes and learning programmes in action. It is an excellent way to gain a deeper understanding of the educational opportunities available to our students.
