2027 Course Selection: Choose Well, Keep Doors Open

As course selection for 2027 begins over the coming weeks, we encourage students and whānau to discuss future pathways and goals together. You can explore available subjects and planning tools on the Rutherford Study website, as well as seek guidance from Tutor Teachers, Deans, and the Careers team.

Timeline

Options Week -  August 10 -14 (Information and assemblies are run to inform students of the process and provide guidance)

Options Selection: Opens August 12 (students select via SchoolBridge)

Closes: 3pm August 21

Because initial student selections are used to build our 2027 timetable, allocate staff, and assign resources—making later course changes very difficult—taking care with choices now will ensure your child is set up for success from day one.

At Rutherford we will be running special assemblies to further inform students about the importance of making wise selections for 2027 that provides them with a good pathway for future years.

Careers Expo

Whether you're aiming for university, considering a trade, or still exploring your next steps, the Careers Expo is the perfect chance to ask questions, gather resources, and start shaping your future.

This is not just for students in Years 11 - 13 - We encourage all students to come along, be curious, and make the most of this valuable event!

Venue: School Hall

Time: 2pm to 7pm

Parent/Student/Subject Teacher Conferences - 13 August

Our Parent/Student/Subject Teacher (PSST) Conferences will be held from 2.00pm–8.00pm, alongside our Careers Expo. This is a great opportunity to meet with your child's subject teachers, discuss their progress, and seek advice about future course selections. Bookings open on 3 August – don't miss this valuable opportunity to support your child's learning journey.

Kotuku Badge Applications

Applications are now open for students to apply for a Kotuku Badge. The Kotuku Badge scheme is designed to encourage the pursuit of excellence and encourage participation across the college. The badges are attainable for all students in four areas. Students are encouraged to build their ‘ladder’ and in doing so, build pride, foster goal setting, reward competition and encourage participation. There are four categories: academic, sport, culture and citizenship. Students can build on their achievements and strive for two levels – with the colours being based on the school colours of blue (top level) and silver (initial level). You can find out more on our website about the criteria for each badge. Students can complete the application via the School Portal. Click on the Kotuku Badge icon and complete the form. Applications close 7 August. Badges will be presented during Rutherford Week this term.

Supporters of Rutherford College

We are incredibly grateful to John Andrew Ford for their generous support of our school community. By providing us with access to a Ford van, they are making it significantly easier for our students to attend sports fixtures, academic competitions, and community events safely and conveniently.

Community partnerships like this make a world of difference for our students and programs. To show our appreciation, we encourage our school whānau to support John Andrew Ford in return. If you are due for a vehicle service, or if you are considering purchasing a new or quality used vehicle in the near future, please visit the team at John Andrew Ford or book with them online—and let them know you're part of our school community!
