Year 13 Leavers
I would like to make special mention of our senior students who in 2026 finish their journey as Rutherford students.
The friendships that you make often prove to be lifelong ones and cannot be overstated. It will be those shared memories and experiences that you talk about when you catch up with each other in the years ahead. People may first gather as classmates and over time spent together, there will be groups who will leave not just as classmates but as family or whanau.
For our Year 13 leavers- their farewell luncheon is Thursday November 5 in the school hall from 11am to 1.30pm.
The following is the story that I have been sharing at assemblies this week. What we do in the here and now build, our brand image, and the mana and trust we have with people.
The Fist
In England during WW2, interceptors were employed to listen to German radio messages being sent in Morse Code. The information the interceptors collected was invaluable for planning strategy. But they gathered more than just information. Morse code operators talked about ‘the fist’. This is the special characteristic every Morse Code operator develops, the way they tapped the keys and send messages. The interceptors became so expert they could identify which operators were sending which messages from their fist. This was of huge assistance to intelligence experts as the interceptors could tell, how reliable a particular operator had been in the past, so they could calculate how accurate, the new information was likely to be.
We all develop our own fist in every aspect of our lives. People who know us well, can and will judge our actions by their knowledge of our behaviour in the past.
