AMA Mathex Competition 2024

AMA Mathex Competition 2024

On Wednesday evening, 21st August 2024, two Year 9 teams and one Year 10 team competed in the Auckland Mathematics Association Mathex Competition with 60+ other Auckland Secondary Schools.

The students involved were:

Adam Yuan 9FI                    Maire Hohepa 10EL

Dima Shalamkov 9FI                Nico Curran 10EL

Bolton Shen 9HE                    Ruby Paapu 10BN

Harry Donald 9LU                        Chloe Zhuang 10PR

Spencer Edwards-Mckeown 9KM

Lev Kuznetsov 9HE

Ralph Alapati Saili 9MA

The Year 9 teams were enthusiastic and got off to a speedy start and then continued to work hard solving the problems as they got more complex.  Both teams ended up with the same scores.

The Year 10 team was in the hunt during the whole 30 minutes of their competition, always within striking distance of the eventual winners.

All students were extremely well behaved and had an enjoyable time.  The teams would like to thank maths teacher Mr Aaron Honey for volunteering to be our assigned marker.  They would especially like to thank our Head of Faculty Mr Tony Stanton who helped with the overall organisation of the whole night in his capacity as a member of the executive of the AMA.

The Year 9 teams are looking forward to attending Mathex next year as Year 10s to improve their performances.
