School Closure Update – 01 February 2023

The Secretary for Education has advised Auckland schools they are now free to open providing they have a safe learning environment for staff and students.

Dear Parents and Caregivers

I hope you and your family have remained safe and dry during the atrocious weather.

The Secretary for Education has advised Auckland schools they are now free to open providing they have a safe learning environment for staff and students.

Thank you for your patience and support during a very unsettling period.

Rutherford College will remain closed until February 7th as per the initial directive from Civil Defence and Ministry of Education. We have put in a significant amount of time rearranging the start up programme for every year level and have outlined everything you need to know below.

Course Confirmation and Course Changes.  Thursday 2 February 10.00am – 12.00 noon

Course confirmation is only for senior students who have received an email asking them to do so. If they have not received an email they do not need to attend.

Course Changes: (Year 12-13 only).  If students want to make a change to their course they are also able to facilitate this on Thursday

Course Changes for (Years 9, 10 and 11) can be completed next week when they attend for the first time.

Tuesday 7 February (Year 9 students and new to Rutherford students Only)

Start Time: 9am (Congregate in the driveway near the Administration Block)
Venue: Powhiri is in the School Hall
Finish time: 3.10pm

Wednesday 8 February (Year 9 and 10 only)

Start time: 8.50am – Finish Time: 3.10pm

  • Year 9 – report straight to tutor class
  • Year 10 – Report straight to the School Hall
  • Year 11-13 – No School

Thursday 9 February (All year levels, all day)

Start time: 8.50am – Finish Time: 3.10pm

  • Year 9 – report to tutor classes
  • Year 10 – report to tutor class
  • Year 11 – Report to the School Hall for Assembly
  • Year 12 – Report to the top Gym for Assembly
  • Year 13 – Report to the Sports Hall for Assembly
  • Period 2 onward, normal timetable for all levels.

 Friday 10 February (Normal school day) All students on timetable.

Upcoming Events:

15 February – School Swimming Sports
16 February – School Athletics Day (all day)
16 February – New to Rutherford College BBQ – 6pm – 8pm
17 February – Scholars’ Assembly – 1pm (Senior students)

School Gates:

Gates are being installed at the front and back entrances of the school to provide the campus an extra level of security. You may see workman there during the day. Please avoid the area unless it is an emergency. Parking and drop off points should be in the streets nearby the school.

School App

The school no longer uses School Apps for notifications. We have moved to SchoolBridge – please download the SchoolBridge App from the portal or website to ensure you get school notifications directly to your phone.
